  1. Take the Jurassic falls adventure flight landing at the base of the falls and check out the ancient fossils - fantastic!
  2. For some spectacular views over New Plymouth, Sugar Loaf Islands & Coastline, climb to the summit of Paritutu Rock - A must do while in New Plymouth!
  3. Amazing real life scale models about early South Taranaki life all designed and hand made on site also a tasty cafe on site. Bush Railway runs monthly.

The best kept secrets:

  1. Visit The Gables Gallery in Brooklands Park New Plymouth. The oldest colonial hospital still standing in NZ and houses great art exhibitions by local artists!
  2. Grab some fish and chips and head down to Opunake Beach for a meal in a great setting. The beach is an ideal location for a casual meal.
  3. Follow the ruggeed coast between Ohawe and Waihi Beach. It can only be done around low tide, but there are amazing views of the southern coastline.

Great food & wine:

  1. Montrose wine bar on Liardet Street has a fantastic selection of international wines to tempt your tastebuds
  2. When you are driving through Eltham, stop for a fantastic muffin and coffee at Inflame Cafe on the main road. They are so tasty they're hard to resist!
  3. On your way around Surf Highway 45 make sure you stop at Sugar Juice Cafe in Opunake - their chicken pies and homemade salsa are great!
