Woolworths builds new warehouse

Due to the rise of online shopping, supermarkets have started to cater to the demand. One of Australia’s largest retailers, Woolworths, is building an automated fulfilment centre in Sydney.

The development comes as demand for online grocery has more than tripled in the past two years.

Customers are embracing the idea of being able to shop online wherever they want, when they want and how they want, according to retailers.

The centre will have a 22,000 square metre warehouse and will be able to handle online orders.

The new facility will allow customers to order online from their homes.

Professor Gary Mortimer said that these automated warehouses would help speed up the processing of orders, and deliver them much faster.

NSW Deputy Premier Stuart Ayres has hailed COVID-19 as the engine room of the Western Sydney economy.

More than 250 roles will be created to support the development of a centre that will provide banking and financial services to western Sydney’s residents. The project is expected to create 440 jobs.

“Western Sydney is the engine room of our economy and when the economy stops moving, it stops working”.
